Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra:

Artistic Director: István Várdai

Concertmaster: Péter Tfirst

Featuring: István Várdai (cello)

Three faces of Romanticism unfold on this February evening in the unique concert hall of the Budapest Music Center. Schubert’s only, unfinished quartet movement and his emotion-filled Arpeggione Sonata – heard here in a string orchestra arrangement with István Várdai as soloist – evoke the passionate and lyrical world of the 19th century. Grieg’s Holberg Suite offers a playful yet elegant tribute to Baroque forms, bathed in the rich colours of Romantic orchestration. The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra thrives in this intimate, nuanced musical space, offering an hour of heartfelt and elevated music in the spirit of Romanticism.:

Programme:

Schubert: String Quartet Movement in C minor (“Quartettsatz”), D 703 – for string orchestra

Schubert: Arpeggione Sonata in A minor, D 821 – arranged for cello and string orchestra

Grieg: Holberg Suite, Op. 40
