Read the story of Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra

Our orchestra has been a prominent actor in the international elite of the classical music scene for over six decades. Our ensemble was founded in 1963 by graduates of the Liszt Academy. We garnered great success both domestically and throughout the world with the significant figures of chamber music: first, under the leadership of Frigyes Sándor and then János Rolla.

Successes of recent years

Since 2016, under the direction of Péter Tfirst as concertmaster, adhering to the usual high-level artistic interpretation and the acclaimed unique orchestral timbre, our ensemble has continued to perform on a grand scale. In 2020, István Várdai, a world-famous cello artist, joined the orchestra's professional life and has contributed to its development of the artistic concept as artistic director ever since. We have been working together to strengthen the two pillars of the ensemble's artistic creed: the desire to preserve the high-quality tradition and renew ourselves.

Artistic leadership

After the stars of the bygone decades leaving an eternal memory in the ensemble, such as Sviatoslav Richter, Mstislav Rostropovich, Isaac Stern, Yehudi Menuhin, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Maurice André, some more recent partners included Martha Argerich, Emmanuel Pahud, Vadim Gluzman, Denis Matsuev, Mischa Maisky, Maxim Vengerov, Ilya Gringolts, David Fray, Pablo Barragán, Martin Frost, and to name a star guest of the year 2024: the brilliant Signum Saxophone Quartet. We will offer similar experiences to our audience in the coming period, as our concert calendar already includes concerts with such outstanding musicians as Elisabeth Leonskaja, Kirill Troussov, Kirill Gerstein and Vikingur Olafsson.
